Mitchell T. Rabkin MD, the Principal
Investigator (667-9400) of the GCRC, is the President-Emeritus of
Care Group, the parent organization of the BIDMC, and Professor of
Medicine at Harvard Medical School. He serves as the Chair
of the GCRC Scientific Advisory Committee.
Alan C. Moses, MD, Interim Program
Director (732-2501), has overall administrative and
scientific responsibility for the operation of the Beth Israel Deaconess
GCRC. He also serves as a resource for investigators seeking to do
research on the GCRC. He is an endocrinologist with a research interest
in severe insulin resistance and novel therapies of Diabetes Mellitus,
and is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School.
Steven D. Freedman, MD, Assistant
Program Director (667-5576) is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at
Harvard Medical School, and a member of the Division of Gastroenterology
at BIDMC. His clinical research interest is in understanding the role of
cystic fibrosis gene mutations in adults with pancreatic and liver
diseases. Dr. Freedman assists with the day-to-day operation of the
Center.
Phillip Balasa, Administrative
Manager (667-4269), is responsible for administrative aspects of the
GCRC. He advises and supports staff and investigators regarding conduct
of clinical research in the GCRC. He provides and maintains grant and
budget information, manages the resources of the Center and maintains
liaison with NIH, while providing the record keeping mandated by NIH.
Mary Williams RN, MS, Nurse
Manager (667-3354), provides direction to the GCRC nursing staff.
Ms. Williams is a member of the Beth Israel Deaconess Committee for
Clinical Investigation and New Procedures (CCI) and is available to
assist investigators with any CCI or informed consent issues.
Jeanene Fogli, MS, RD, Chief
Bionutritionist (667-1254), actively participates in the planning,
development, conduct and analyses of the nutrition aspects of research
protocols. She reviews and assists investigators with all nutrition and
dietary aspects of protocols submitted to the GCRC. Her staff is trained
in the production and service of metabolic balance diets, calculated,
constant, therapeutic, controlled nutrient, and test diets.
John Zeind, MS, GCRC Core
Laboratory Director (632-9040), assures quality control of assays
and assists in the development and implementation of new assays. The laboratory
provides immunoassays and non-routine laboratory tests required for
protocols using the GCRC.
Noemi Osorio, Unit Coordinator,
(667-3351), acts as receptionist and schedules inpatient and outpatient
appointments and ensures smooth functioning for study participants,
investigators and staff.
